PRESS RELEASE
St. Albans Police Department
_____________________________________________________________________________

We are saddened by the horrific events in Boston on Monday, April 15, 2013. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families and friends. Some of our friends and neighbors participated in the Boston Marathon and witnessed in part or whole the horrible events that occurred that day.

In light of the events in Boston and the fact that the 47th Annual Maple Festival and the Sap Run will be held the weekend of April 26-28 the St. Albans Police Department, in conjunction with our Law Enforcement partners, and the St. Albans City Recreation Department is evaluating security and safety procedures for these coming events. Though none of us would compare the Vermont activities, crowds and notoriety with that of Boston or New York City, we would be foolish not to assess overall security for these smaller events. Rational individuals might surmise that Franklin County Vermont is not a likely target for such events and activities, however all of the resources at our disposal will be considered and utilized (where appropriate) in order to create a safe environment for race participants, festival attendees and the community at large to enjoy these activities within our community.
