Tennis
St. Albans Recreation Department will offer several opportunities to play tennis this summer!
QuickStart
QuickStart Tennis will be for children under the age of ten. They will meet on Tuesday mornings. Ages 5-7 9:30am-10:15am, Ages 8 & 9 10:30-11:30am at Houghton Park on Elm Street in St. Albans. QuickStart is a format to help kids ten and under 10 learn and play the game. To make it easier for them, we've changed a few things. The court sizes, the racquet sizes, the balls, the scoring system - even the net height. Any child between the ages of 5 & 10 can start playing tennis almost immediately - even if he or she has never picked up a racquet before. Kids will have fun playing with their friends and develop skills that will become the foundation of their game.
USTA Junior Team Tennis (JTT)
USTA JTT is for girls and boys ages 6 to 18 of all abilities and experience. Whether you have been playing for years, or have never held a racquet, there's a spot on the team for you. Each team will participate in 6 matches. 3 home and 3 away. Teams are formed in ages groups:
18 & under
14 & under
12 & under
Teams in each division will be eligible to compete in the State Tournement on August 13-11 at Davis Park in Shelburne, VT. Winners of the 14 & 18 age groups will represent Vermont at the New England Sectional Championship.
All kids participating in JJT MUST be current USTA members. The USTA Vermont Jr. Team Tennis Registration form is available for download below. If you prefer to register online you may do so at www.usta.com/membership or by calling 1-800-990-8782. Payment is made directly to USTA and is in addition to the cost of the program. Completed forms and payment may also be handed in to the coach or recreation department. If your child is currently a USTA member, and their membership is active through October 31, 2012 - they are all set and do not need to re-register. Please submit their USTA membership number to the coach or recreation department.
USTA Membership costs $40 and includes online registration fees, balls for each match, state tournement fee, and a one year USTA junior membership.
Exact practice times have not been set as of yet, but will most probably begin the week of May 28th and will be updated on this page as soon as they are confirmed.
