We are delighted to be partnering with Choice Physical Therapy to offer these great fitness and health education programs at no cost to the community.  All programming will take place at Barlow Street Community Center - 2nd floor.  No fee, but pre-registration is requested.  Check out the offerings and register below.

Understanding Stretching to Enhance Performance  Wednesday April 16th at 6pm Presented by Leanne Blanchard, MS, PT   This program will provide information and tips on the importance of stretching in a regular exercise program to prevent injury.  It will  review the basic concepts of stretching and how to safely and effectively perform both dynamic and static stretching at home.
Learning Objectives:What is Dynamic vs Static Stretching?  When is the best time to stretch?  Learn the rules of stretchingLearn a series of dynamic and static   Stretches for injury prevention



Back Education Program  Wednesday May 14th at 6pm  Presented by Leanne Blanchard, MS,PT This program will educate one about the general anatomy of the back.  It will review common causes of back injuries and ways to prevent back injuries from occurring.
Learning Objectives: Teach you how your back works. Help dispel myths about back injuries. Explain how some common back disorders occur, and therefore teach you how to reduce the risk of a back injury. If you know what may cause it, you will know how to prevent it.



Fitting in Fitness: Exercise options for busy people  Wednesday June 11th at 6pm Presented by Kara Lumbra, PT   Sorry, this class is cancelled for 6/11/14
Learning objectives:This program will provide information and tips on fitting in fitness into your daily life.  It will also review the components of a fitness program and how to overcome obstacles that may be preventing you from incorporating fitness into your day.  Five keys to implementing a successful fitness program.Why physical activity is important.  What gets in the way?Components of physical activity.Tips for fitting in fitness.



Oh…My Aching Shoulder!  Wednesday September 17th at 6pm  Presented by Kara Lumbra, PT
This program will review the basic anatomy and biomechanics of the shoulder joint. It will discuss what impingement syndrome is and ways to prevent and treat shoulder pain related to impingement syndrome.
Learning Objectives:Learn the basic anatomy of the shoulder. Learn the basic mechanics of the shoulder. Learn the causes of impingement syndrome. Learn strategies to help prevent shoulder pain. Learn exercises to help treat or prevent shoulder pain.



Managing My Knee Pain  Wednesday October 15th at 6pm  Presented by Leanne Blanchard, MS,PT  This program will review the basic anatomy and biomechanics of the knee joint. It will discuss what patellofemoral pain and meniscal injuries are and ways to prevent and treat pain related to these issues
Learning Objectives:Learn the basic anatomy of the knee. Learn the basic mechanics of the knee. Learn the causes of patellofemoral pain syndrome.Learn the symptoms of meniscal injury Learn strategies to help prevent patellofemoral pain. Learn exercises to help treat or prevent knee pain.



Arthritis and You.  Understanding what arthritis is and how to manage it. Wednesday November 12th at 6pm  Presented by Kara Lumbra, PT   This program will provide an overview of arthritis and educate one on ways to help manage arthritis pain and to be able to function with arthritis on a daily basis.
Learning Objectives: What is arthritis? What is the cause of arthritis? What are the risk factors for developing arthritis? What are the different types of arthritis? What are the signs and symptoms for arthritis? What are ways to help manage arthritis?
